Be Your Own Icon

Using mixed-media techniques including paint, fabric and collage, we will be creating icons of ourselves. This class leads you through techniques for self-portraiture as well as for developing your own personal mythos and symbology. Using these we will be creating icons of ourselves, some serious, some tongue-in-cheek, all ICONIC.

Use Fabric

Make a dent in your fabric stash pile by using different textures and colors to create your icons.

Self-Portraiture

I will guide you in putting yourself into your art by using self-portraiture in the style of religious icon paintings. We will take portraits that will be altered using mixed techniques.

Explore Your Own Mythos

Using paper, paint and other media, we will recreate the visual elements of icon paintings (the veil, the halo) but give them a unique twist to make them truly yours.

Make An Altar Piece

The culmination of this process will be to make a trifold piece that you can place on your altar or in your studio. This can be adapted to become a pocket unfolding icon.
